Early winter snow in New Zealand

Welcome to the new web site for the New Zealand Cross Country Ski Association. It is hosted in conjuction with the New Zealand Nordic Sports Development.

And welcome to the first major snow-falls for the austral '07 season - the storm started about three days ago. The Snow Park situated within a Km or two of the Snow Farm nordic area has opened, so we're hopeful that cross country skiing can begin very soon.

Pictured above is a view of the modest, but disruptive snowfall taken yesterday looking across the mouth of the Cardrona Valley. Wanaka township is to the right.

The picture below was taken during the storm on Thursday evening in the vicinity of Lake Wanaka.
