Andy Pohl showed he is in good form at the weekend taking out the Mens open section of the second series in the Peak Projects Nordic Race Series at the Snow Farm on Sunday.
The race was in the freestyle discipline over 5km and Pohl looked strong and keen to improve on his second placing last week. Taking full advantage of a course error by American skier Pavel Sotskov, Pohl won by nearly 50 seconds with his fellow national team mate Nat Anglem in third.
Pohl had a good northern hemisphere season in Canada and Europe, with the highlight being a strong showing at the World Under23 Championships where he unexpectedly beat all his Australia counterparts in the Classic style race, before getting ill and withdrawing from his better discipline the freestyle competition.
Sotskov is the son of the New Zealand national development coach, and is having his second season training in New Zealand after finishing his studies at Dartmouth College in the USA. He will soon be joined at the Snow Farm by the visiting Russian and USA teams, who will be competing in the forthcoming FIS ANC Cup races in early August.
