Mission Statement

To develop and promote the nordic sports of cross-country skiing, biathlon and associated Nordic skiing sports by focusing particularly on:

• Introductory programs for children

• Youth development programs

• Year round training for competitive youth

• Family focused programmes encouraging involvement of the whole family in cross country skiing

• Organisation of events for all categories.

NZNSDA’s strategic vision is:

• To have pupils from all primary and secondary schools in the central Otago area participating in the introductory/school skiing programme

• To create a fun and social environment for children to experience cross country skiing and reinforce the value of exercise and healthy living

• To increase the number of active cross country skiers within the development programme to more than 100 within 2010

• To introduce cross country skiing as a sport to parents and family friends in order to build a strong support base of volunteers

• To have a core senior development squad of more than 30 skiers training regularly through the summer including running, biking, multisport and rollerskiing

• To have New Zealand skiers filling podium places in 2 male and 2 female categories at the Australian Junior National Age Group championships

• To facilitate the training and competing of our top age-group skiers in Europe or America during the New Zealand summer

• To have 3 of the development squad skiers attend the World Junior Championships before 2011

• To retain at least 20% of competition squad members in the sport beyond age 18.
