FIS / ANZ CONTINENTAL CUP race photos and Merino Muster coming up
Photos and text to inspire re. the up-coming
Merino Muster Aug 23, 2008 [thanks Jan Wood from the
Wanaka Nordic Ski Club]:
Robin McKeever...
Thrilling racing was to be seen on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday of last week, with competitors from Australia, Canada, Japan, France, Switzerland and of course New Zealand. NZ's Nat Anglem skied very well in the B Final of the Sprint on Saturday as did Andrea Fancy skiing for New Zealand in the Women's B Final. Katie Calder was unable to take part on Saturday due to bronchitis but did extremely well on Sunday in the Freestyle, coming in 3rd behind Canada and Japan. Andrea gained 5th place, with Sam Bondarenko 11th and Anna Hogg 12th. Stiff competition came from the two Swiss girls but Katie beat them both off. The Men's Freestyle final was won by Robin McKeever of Canada (a regular Snow Farm visitor) by 7 hundreds of a second over Masaaki Kozu of Japan. Exciting racing to be sure! Once again Nat did very well, placing 12th in a field of experienced World Cup skiers.

MERINO MUSTER
The next big race on the horizon! This Saturday 23rd August. But you don't have to be an aspiring Olympic skier to take part in this race. Thankfully there are races for the ordinary folk too, so now it's everybody's chance to enter and have fun.
Get your entry forms in to the office. Don't wait till the day to see what the weather's doing as it's more expensive to enter then. Just trust that it's going to be OK on the day and go for it. As usual, a number of volunteers are required to help out, so if you're not skiing, please get in touch with Sarah at the office and she'll assign you a job. If you have any friends who might like to help also, register them as well. Thanks a lot from Mary!
