Merino Muster 2007

What a day it was last Saturday [18 Aug. 2007] where everything could be described as SUPERB! Many people will agree that it was the best Muster yet, and perhaps we've said that before, but with the snow, the weather, the contestants, the organization and the results, I think we're justified in saying IT DEFINITELY WAS the best Muster ever!! The NZNSD kids will certainly agree, as many skied as they had never skied before and produced some amazing results. They will be extremely proud of themselves to have come such a long way in a few short years. With dedication and youth on their side, it's amazing what can be achieved. Congratulations also to Sam Bondarenko, 2nd in the 42k and Andrea Fancy, 3rd in the 21k. Well raced girls!

There was some wonderful skiing to be witnessed on the day, with Team USA coming to the fore with wins in all categories and the Japanese and Canadian disabled skiers right up there with the best of them. And of course the day wouldn't be complete without a mention of the two groups from Finland who came across the world to add colour to our Muster day. Apparently neither group knew the other was coming until they met up at the Snow Farm Lodge! They certainly set the standard for stamina with some of their 70 year olds doing the 42km in classic style! Let's hope they enjoyed their experience so much that they will return again.
